Search Engine Optimisation
Search Engine Optimisation is one of the biggest ‘buzzwords’ in the internet marketing worlds. In fact, there are very few internet marketing companies who don’t claim to offer SEO and vice versa.
This is understandable. After all, Search Engine Optimisation should be an absolutely vital component of any good online advertising campaign – what good is all that work if people can’t find your site when they’re searching for your specific keywords? But as popular a phrase as SEO is and as important as it is to most people’s online presence, the actual process – and indeed, what it actually is – tends to be shrouded in mystery and jargon and a lot of finger pointing tends to go on between agencies.
What Is SEO?
So we’ve established that SEO is a hugely popular term and that a lot of people aren’t really too sure of what it is, so now it’s time to answer the question. What is it?
In a nutshell, search engine optimisation is the process by which a website is made acceptable to – or optimised for – search engines, especially Google. There are a lot of ways of doing this, be it link building, article marketing, ensuring that a site is technically correct, but they all have the same goal – move your site up the search engine rankings, preferably somewhere in the region of page one.
A good SEO campaign will incorporate all of these aspects, and more, but as with everything, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it. Search engines have strict guidelines as to what they will and will not allow when it comes to optimising a site and a site which features non-approved techniques may well find itself penalised and consequently languishing in the lower end of the SERPS once they get caught.
This is the difference between White and Black Hat Search Engine Optimisation – although White Hat or organic SEO can take time to get the listings you want, they tend to last a lot longer and there’s no fear of your site’s rankings disappearing due to nefarious practise on your part, which should always be something in the back of your mind if you opt for Black Hat techniques.
How Does This Help With Internet Marketing?
The answer to this one is simple – you can have the best designed website in the world, completely optimised for conversions and a range of great offers to entice your visitors, but what good is that if your site is on page twenty of the search engines? What if you’re targeting the incorrect keywords for it? How does that help you return on the investment that you have made in your internet marketing campaign or your site as a whole?
That is the ultimate goal of any good SEO campaign – getting you strong, organic positions for the optimal keywords relating to your business. We understand this at High Position – that’s why we are THE SEO Company.
